With the swinging of average temperatures through the year, it is widely known that many forms of concrete can show a pattern of thermal expansion and contraction between seasons. This may occur on the millimetric level and is thus something often picked up in the ground motion monitoring data from Rezatec’s InSAR capability on concrete structures as part of or around dams.
This sinusoidal curve pattern has been recognised by customers all over the world, and particularly in regions with strongly seasonal climates.

This example shows the consistent curve pattern of displacement change around a median elevation from winter to summer over four years.  The data here came from the long term trend graph of a hexagon on a concrete structure of a North American dam.
