Forest inventory is a data product aimed at providing 10m resolution estimates of lumber mensuration and species, essential for understanding the true value of the stock.
In the standard offering, forest cruise plot data is combined with satellite-derived optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data and environmental layers to model volume, tree count, height (mean and maximum), DBH (diameter at breast height), dominant and secondary species.
The enhanced offering allows customers to purchase additional higher resolution data from commercial sources (aerial images, digital surface models etc.) to further increase the accuracy of the lumber quantification.
Satellite data (both optical and SAR) are first cleaned and standardised to produce cloud free seasonal images. This data (alongside soil and climatic data) forms the predictor pool for the machine learning model. Additional data is required for the enhanced offering.
